Day 16 of the Big Naked Pain and Brain Campaign – Pleasure or Pain

Today more Family Guy! This clip is suggestive of the pleasure-pain theory. Stewie has a dislocated arm, which Brian relocates with considerable force! What is most interesting is Stewie’s comment at the end. ‘I’m not saying I like pain, but I’m not saying I don’t like it either’ The Pleasure Pain Theory dates back to early philosophers such as Renee Descartes explaining that the two are opposites or part of a continuum with a fine line to what we experience as pleasurable and as painful. Although painful, Stewie indirectly infers that in potentially different circumstances his pain maybe more pleasurable. Hopefully you get my drift! What pain is to one individual may be someone else’s pleasure.
